A few weeks ago I went full bore on my ZR-1 and was sorta happy with it, sorta not right after I finished. I got caught out in the rain with her, only a few drops on the car but I couldn't get the water off right away. Now I am really not happy with how it looks. Right now I have VM, S100 spray wax, NXT, IBIZ spray wax, and final inspection on the car. I want to remove all this at start at the clear coat and go up. I plan to use ClearKote VM, NXT, S100 paste, final inspection/quick detail.

The thing is I just had the hood replaced/painted at the begining of the season (late april earlly may) and am a little hesitant to use a polish on it to strip the wax etc off the car. The only polish I have is Meguiars Deep Crystal. I know it's not the best but it should serve do what I need it to do. Is the polish the best way to go about this or should I be exploring other options?

VM will clean the paint surface of all your old "stuff" and its light polishing action will remove minor swirls and cobwebbing.

Especially if you have a PC. Use a polishing pad and crank it up to 6. Also use a polishing pad to apply NXT, keep the speed around 4-5.

You will be fine by hand too.

So just wash her and go to town with the VM? Should I let the VM sit on the car for awhile, or wipe it right off?

Edit: will it help if I apply more then one coat of VM. NXT or S100 or am I just waisting product.

1 coat of VM is sufficient. It does have very light abrasives and some cleaners in it so it won't layer. Going over the car twice though will leave the paint more highly polished. NXT works best with two layers, which ensures complete coverage. Wait a full day before using S100. You can just apply a coat of S100 every month or so until you decide to polish out your car again.

VM and S100 are wipe on, wipe off. Let NXT sit about 15 minutes before removing.

Well the car won't be getting much excersise for a while. Im getting the car ready for Carlisle. Is there any reason to wait for a day before appyling the S100?

You shouldn't get NXT wet or apply anything over it for 24 hours for best appearance and durability. If you are pressed for time, just wait as long as you can before applying S100.

I think I can wait the 24 hrs I was just wondering why the wait time.

Do you have anything in mind for use on aluminum suspension pieces to make them shine?

Mother's Metal Polish is great. There is a new NXT metal polysh but I haven't tried or even seen it yet.

Where is the best place to get S100? I've heard bike shops.

Another question, do I have to wait 24hrs to apply both coats of NXT?
    So would I have to:
    today wash, VM, NXT
    tomorrow, NXT
wednesday, S100. Then can I just apply another coat of S100 over that with out waiting?

I went to my local bike shop to look for the S100 and of course they didn't have it. I am wondering where I can find it in the pittsburgh area. Im sure I'll find it at carlisle but I need it now, not in 4 days. I don't feel like spending my Thursday night waxing my car instead of drinking with people I only see twice a year.

Did you go to a Harley Davidson dealership?

Try a Harley shop. They usually have it.

You don't have to wait 24 hours in between applications of NXT since it does have light cleaners and abrasives in it (just enough to prep the paint for bonding as you lay the product down). You'd apply two coats to make ensure complete coverage. After the second coat, wait 24 hours before getting it wet or topping it for best results.

    Scott,
your knowlege is amazing. Im guessing waxing the exhaust pipes is a bad idea? Not the tips, the actual pipes?

Just polish the pipes. Wax will burn off them pretty quickly.
