With the rebates, new it is only $150-200 more than used

Im just waiting on this $500 check I've got coming in the mail :wiggle:

I think I'm going to order from B&H... unless someone knows where I can get it cheaper than $1360 :x:

i just rented one and took 99% of the pics in my safari thread with it.

GREAT f'n lens. i'd rather have it than the 70-200.

a bit tough to autofocus in low light, but if you're comfortable manually focusing, it's not too bad

I manual focus a lot with my current lens (sigma 70-300)

I have heard a lot of good things about this lens (except maybe earlier versions may have had a higher % of soft lenses) another part of the reason to buy new

    4.5-5.6

    at least it has IS

I dont have the money for a 400 2.8, only other option is the 400 5.6, but no IS, and I like the range between 150-300 (and using 400mm will be really nice for some of those small birds I like to shoot sometimes)

    Why not get a Sigma/Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 with a 2x teleconverter?

    That'll give you a 140-400mm f/5.6 lens + 70-200mm f/2.8 lens for less than a grand.

    :dunno:

have you compared how the canon 70-200 2.8+ 2x converter compares to the 100-400 in IQ?

    the 100-400 looks superior + I can add a 1.4x and a 2x to that

Im not really worried about AF with a converter, because its only once and a while I use it. I also have the Tamron 1.4x, which autofocuses on my sigma 70-300 F4-5.6 (although slowly and not very accurate, but the AF isnt the best on that lens anyways), and is supposed to AF with the 100-400 (according to the sales guy, hoping he wasn't just full of it)

I have an 400D, I'll upgrade that once I get some good glass

it is the push pull, i'm a bit indifferent, I've heard it sucks in some dust (some say a lot, some say none), but I haven't heard anything about the dust causing IQ problems (I have a few specks of dust in my 50 1.8, and you cant tell at all)

yea, i noticed amazon has free shipping, I might go that route, I've never had a problem with amazon

dust pump. 4 friends of mine all had the 100-400. all ended up selling them due to dust issues. they all have gone back to the 70-200+1.4x or sigma 120-300

do those "friends" have any pictures you can post (100% crops would be nice) that show this dust issue being a major problem?
