Hey, I got my first competition on sat. Any advice? I have been doing west side for about 5 months now. My DL has gone up and so has my squat but my bench hasn't. I think I need to do board presses. I have also been cutting to try and lose some fat, since I read that to make alot of strength gains you gotta gain weight. So in the fall I plan to try to get up to 215 for the next competition that will be in Oct.

What are your best gym lifts and what do you plan on opening with? Is today or tomorrow your last day of training?

Um, actually I haven't thought about it. My best DL is 535, my best bench was 315 but I don't think that was with competition worthy form, and squat was like 385. Any advice on what to open with and stuff?

    Just general suggestions
    Squat: 335-345
    Bench: 265-275
    Deadlift: 485-501

Bench is a little tricky to figure out if you don't train with pauses. General rule of thumb is to open with something that you can triple and could get on your worst day, go for a PR on your second, and then go for broke on your 3rd.

I like making big jumps on deadlift. Last meet I went 470,551,601. I'd go for 551 on your second. You'll be suprised how much more you can pull in a meet environment. I'll generally make 40-50 lb jumps on squat, or at least plan to, and then wing it on bench

For a first meet, I'd be more concerned with going at least 6 for 9. Also, if you are getting nervous in warmups and think you are gonna have trouble w/ an opener, dont be afraid to bump it down

Seems like your squat is low compared to the rest.

From experience, going too low is better than not going low enough
