    Shooting my 19.

I have sort of a "mentor" in Jerry Miculek's brother Donnie. He said he'd help me out and loan me a couple extra mag pouches (I only have two).

What should I expect? I'm going to bring 6 mags. Is that enough?

  2. 6 mags is plenty.

Have you shot anything similar before? IPSC is a shitload of fun. Good luck. :)

Nope. I'm really doing it for a couple reasons. 1) to promote my website and 2) to try to get tuned up for the couple handgun classes i have planned for the first part of this year.

Will I be a jackass for taking my time? Slow is smooth, smooth is fast and all that. I don't want to be running around and running the gun faster than I can see.

  5. Just focus on being safe. Watch carefully how the fast guys shoot the stage. I'm not just talking about speed either. Watch how they plan wha targets to hit first, and how they do things to minimize their movements. If you talk to them they'll usually help you out a lot.

  6. Around here they put a "NEW SHOOTER" stamp on the new guys' scoresheets. If they do that there people will see it and know that you're new, and they won't make fun of you or anything.

  7. I take it you're shooting Production. Have you had a chance to read through the USPSA rulebook? You don't have to commit it all to memory, but it's a good idea to have a general idea of how things are supposed to work, and for Production where you are allowed to have your holster and magpouches.

I was told I'd be shooting production.

I haven't. Link? Are extended mag releases legal? :o My gun is bone stock other than that and some night sights.

    Good luck dude!

I do not believe the extended mag release is legal. The sights are definitely ok.

Appendix D4 in the rules covers Production and the "authorized modification" section excludes everything that's not specifically listed. Further, there is a NORI (kind of like the USPSA supreme court) ruling that says that aftermarket parts allowed in Production are specifically limited to what's allowed in D4, or any part that is from the OEM.

You'll be cool if it's the factory extended mag release.

You'll be cool. Just shoot it. It's just a local match.

I got home about an hour ago from my weekly IPSC fix.

We just started doing the "new shooter" sheets. Its really just to keep an extra eye on you as to keep you and others safe.

I still walk the course and take deliberate shots, not rushing at all. I normally shoot mostly alpha with the occasional charlie because of it.

If you are on target with everything, the speed wont hurt you too much on the score because a lot of the guys will have lower accuracy ratings.

The first week I shot, I placed 12 out of 20 which I thought was pretty good considering.

It is a lot of fun with more real world application than just punching paper at the straight range.

There are classes that let you load however many you want. I shoot my xdm with fully loaded 19 rounders.

Some of the other guys shoot just to train something a little more technical than range line shooting.

As long as you pay the club, and follow the safety rules, the guys over here really don't give a shit about the other stuff.

Where are you shooting the match? Poplarville?

  20. I assume you mean divisions instead of classes. They're not real IDPA divisions then. In SSP and ESP you can load 10+1, and they're the "highest capacity" divisions in IDPA.

Just got back. Had a fucking blast.

Had muzzle yelled in my ear 5 or 6 times because of my reload method. :hs:

First place in Unclassified Production

  24. Congrats! Now get out there and keep shooting matches.
