going to detail my wife's jetta this weekend

    and i think i asked this before but couldn't find it.

    so i'll ask again :)

    on the hood there is some bird shit etchings....

    she basically let some bird shit sit on the hood and even though the bird shit is gone the etching is still there in the clear coat.

    is this permanent damage and only a new clear coat will fix this

    or can a good polish/cleaner remove the markings?

    i'm also going to clay bar it to see if that makes a difference.

    If the paint is etched, 9 times out of 10 it is permanent. You may be able to improve the area by polishing.

    It has always been my experience with bird etchings, that you can make them ALOT less noticible...but you can rarely if ever completely remove them.

    got some 3m rubbing compound to help remove some of the swirl marks.
