Alright although I still consider myself a novice in this hobby, Im gonna put some money into a rifle. I want either an AK or an AR. I know theres a good price difference usually. Im looking for something upgradable so I can make it a project for myself and something with affordable ammo so I can go to the range without it costing an arm and a leg.

    Suggestions? Thoughts? Reccomendations?:bigthumb:

    AK - 300-500+

AR - starting at 700-800 to get in the door

    quite a price difference

If you want to upgrade or tacticool it out, I would go AR

    Ammo is close in price...

If you really want to make a project for yourself consider buying a parts kit and building an AK.

As soy said for a project buying the parts and building your own can make a nice project, you can do so with either an AK or an AR with the AR being the easier one to do.

As far as upgrading the complete product alot more stuff out there for the AR to tacticool it out. But you can get handguards with rails for the AK also for doing lights, laser etc. But IMO only accessory an AK really needs is a Kobra.

Got an AK project going right now with my SAR2 turning it into a proper authentic russian looking ak74

Suggestions for AR15 complete rifle? Bushmaster or RRA, building your own? Stripped Stag lower, stag or rra internals, VLOTR or Magpul Stock, Upper really depends on personal tastes lots of options.

AK Suggestions complete rifles Arsenal, Yugo builds, older bulgarian imports, chicom imports, hungarian imports, if you want to tinker and swap out internal parts romanian rifles are good for that. Building your own, Yugo, Bulgarian, Hungarian, or Polish kit, Ohio Rapid Fire reciever if you want to be hardcore and think you can handle it you can get a reciever flat for like $10.

Buy an AR kit, that is the best way to learn about your rifle.
If you start with the lower, it shouldn't be too expensive. And that way you have time to make your decision on an upper. Old school 20"? Flattop 16"? CMP gun? Varmint special?

Unless you are in California, you really dont have a chance of getting a Stag, since they are all flowing into cali before the AW list is updated again. On the other hand, all the DPMS and Bushy lowers are staying out, so you will probably have better luck with that.

Ah didnt realize they were still buying them all up there, The other lowers are good too, suggested stag cause before the cali people were able to gettem you could buyem over on arfcom for $80.

AR all the way. If you want a moddable rifle, I don't think there is a larger accessory line for any other gun. The most appealing part to me about having an AR is the fact that you can switch the uppers and the configuration in 2 pin pushes. Uppers aren't cheap, but the option is always nice.

That being said, I'll own an AK someday. When VEPR prices are normal again.

Good luck. Prices aren't going in your favor. All they are going to do is go up.

More and more people are getting into guns. Between the war in Iraq (and the paranoia of one in Iran) and teens growing up on crap like Counterstrike I think that the prices are just gonna keep going up.

If Izmash aquires the Molot factory I would think that prices would be lowered... someday. Maybe just wishful thinking. But I'd like to see a different importer if that ever happens.

    here's hoping.

I had asking price on other boards for 225. I'd do trades depending on what you have. mosin, garand, ammo, let me know what you have

I can beadblast it for you too if you want so you can just finish it right away, whatever, etc!
