So i'm going to the nascar race her at texas motor speedway on sunday and only have a thrifty fifty and kit lense. My seats, while i don't know where they are exactly, are supposidly pretty awesome, i need lense recommendations to rent.

and, of course, where can i find out where to rent them from?!?!

Ive seen NASCAR show with everything from 14 to 800. Depends on where you are and what you want. There is no special NASCAR lens.

    or lense :mamoru:

70-200 or 100-400 would probably be your best bet, if you're on the pit side and close you may be able to get some okay pictures. Its already Wednesday and the race is Sunday, so you should probably check local stores to see if they rent?

"lense" :o I was drunk when i typed up the post last night :o

anyway, how do i see if local stores rent, and what would be a going rate for renting, say a 70-200 or 100-400 for a weekend?

I guess about right, you probably don't need f/2.8 since it is a day race, so go for the 100-400 for a day or two and I'd guess you'd be okay. Make sure to get pictures of Jimmie Johnson if you want pictures of the race winner.

    This guy?

Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM

I'm not a nascar fan, don't watch the races or anything. I'm just going to play with my camera

Would definitely get a lens over the lense.

Yup. I own one of them, VERY nice. Excellent sharpness.

Need good lighting unless using IS or you want to bump the ISO (not an issue for me since I do a lot of aviation photography outdoors in adequate lighting).
Dawn or dusk is doable for something like racing (higher ISO + IS mode 2 + tripod), as for night stuff I can't give feedback because I haven't tried anything like that... yet.

    Here's a good review: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EF-100-400mm-f-4.5-5.6-L-IS-USM-Lens-Review.aspx

Its a day race, in the middle of the afternoon. All i'd be concerned about is cloud cover so i'm giong to assume low-light conditions will be minimal

Negative, i've never been to Arlington Camera, they do good work?

I had a friend of mine try to set me up with the owner's daughter 4 years ago.

It really depends on what kind of shots you want and what vantage point you have. Personally, I'd probably rent a 300 f/2.8 IS L.

Would Nascar let you bring that telescope inside though?

More than likely you wouldn't need it.
