But only bringing like $500 for a new rifle, I'm pretty set on a Marlin 336 if I can find a nice one. Does anyone have any other ideas on guns I should look at in that price range?

you set on a 30-30 lever action or considering other rifles as well?

If I find a nice deal on a Savage 110 at the next gun show I will probably pick that up. Probably won't shoot it enough to warrant the cost of a Rem 700, so a 110 in 30-06 or .308 will suffice for a decent bolt action rifle. You can find 110's with synthetic stocks for $300 ... $500 will get you a wood stock and a small scope.

I went to a gun show this last weekend. It was king of sad compared to others I've been to in the past.

And only one booth/table was selling stripped ar-15 lowers... Well only one that had lowers that didn't look like they had spraypainted them in their garage on a rainy day :hsugh:

I really want a lever action, there's just something about them that makes me really interested. I don't supposed they make many in .223 do they? :x:

I remember going to them with my dad when I was a kid. I'll never forget seeing a full auto M60 machinegun for $7000. This was, of course, before 1986...

You guys obviously don't bother looking very hard. There are plenty of deals to be had. You just a) have to go fairly early, b) know how to haggle and c) not pick up the first gun as you're walking in, balk at the price and then walk out.

:werd: I always see deals at gun shows, I'm looking for more ideas on what's in my price range, but I'm almost positive I'm going to end up with that Marlin.

only gunshow I've been to, the only even remotely "deal" like stuff I saw was a few Yugo underfolders for $280ish. The guy said he had 4 of them and they sold out the first half hour. He said he was going to charge $400 next time because he was obviously too low.
