Going from Orlando to TX..I know the laws for florida, obviously, but I am unclear about the laws pertaining to the other states I'll be driving through:

Alabama: I think it needs to be unloaded and in the trunk or something of that sort..

Mississippi: Their law is pretty clear, It shall not be a violation of this section for any person over the age of eighteen (18) years to carry a firearm or deadly weapon concealed in whole or in part within the confines of his own home or his place of business, or any real property associated with his home or business or within any motor vehicle.

I guess I can carry, loaded and on my person in a car in Mississippi..

Louisianna: from Packing.org "A user called the Louisiana State Police and was told state law considers your car an extension of the home, similar to Florida with their glove box law. Carrying a loaded gun in the car is an accepted practice there."

I guess I'll just do the same as I do in FL..

Texas: I'm not sure, the law wasn't very clear to me..can someone help me out?

louisiana: if you're under 21 and get pulled over, hide that shit because the hick ass cops either don't know the law or make their own and it will be their new toy.

Louisiana and Mississippi I know you're good.

Texas you have to have a CHL to carry it in your vehicle loaded.

in mississippi you can have a loaded ar-15 on the dash if you want... a car is an extension of your home in MS so you can get away with anything really

They actually had a law change recently. Even before you could carry without a CHL if you were in fact "traveling" Without a real definition of traveling. Now they changed it that you can have it in your car without CHL and the cop has to prove you werent traveling before you can get in trouble.

If you're "traveling" you can carry in your car now according to the law... Problem is, WTF is considered traveling.

the law change as I understand it is this.

OLD LAW: IF you got caught in your car with a gun and no CHL "you" had to prove you were traveling

NEW LAW: If you get caught in your car with a gun and no CHL, the cop has to prove that you Were NOT traveling.

Definition of traveling is still not really clear, I think its something like crossing over two county lines or something like that.

texas has reciprocity w/fl, so he's fine. as long as he's got the ccw, he doesn't have to prove "traveling".

oops! when you said license, i ASSumed you meant ccw.:o still though, i'm sure you cross enough county lines frm fl to tx to justify traveling.

And another thing you should do when traveling with your guns is to always carry the phone number of a good gun friendly attorney in your wallet just incase. You can usually find a list of them on the Packing.org forums and I believe the NRA maintains a database of gun friendly attorneys in every county.
