Stepping back in after a long layoff. Been training regularly for the past two months.

My boxing is being retooled. Worked on my stance and guard placement. My right jab feels great, but for some reason I can't get it to feel right on the left which is my natural stance. I prefer standing southpaw since I absorb hits better and see better, but I don't have enough power in my left hand.

My cross needs more hip rotation. I thought it was ok but it wasn't enough. The shoulder needs to be connected to the hip.

Got a good tip on hooks. Step with your back foot in the opposite direction of where your hook is going. It generates more power.

Defense felt rusty but it's getting better.

As for bjj, I need to roll with bigger dudes but otherwise I haven't forgotten much and felt pretty good rolling for about an hour straight.

It was Friday when I had a sparring session that lasted 3 rounds before I got totally winded. It wasn't too bad considering my time off as I've kept up my cardio lately, but my technique went to shit.

For cardio I'll be riding about 10 miles on the bike with a 50ft climb per mile.

Weights I don't do too much with them. Just some bicep, forearm and shoulder work, along with fist pushups.

I'm 5'8 164.5lbs right now. Looking to drop all the way to 150lbs from 174lbs by the end of the year. I'm hoping that nobody can hurt me at that weight.

I just want to be the big guy for once. I felt pretty small at 170.

Today we only worked on kicks and knees. Mostly on technique and I went with power for the last rounds. I keep forgetting to block on kicks.

I was trying to kick more with my shins to toughen them up and give my instep a bit of a break. I think it's pretty cool when they're all black and blue. :)

    Front kicks
    Body kicks
    Leg kicks
    Knees

2 rounds each side @ 5 mins/ea and almost no rest in between.

I did a fast pace on the bike last night using a high cadence pedal stroke. It takes a lot more oxygen to do that but my legs felt less tired after I was done.

My new lift is to do a hammer curl, extend the weights straight out, and then slowly lower it back down to your side. This works the bis, front delts, and forearms.

Towel whips are also great for rotator cuff work. Something I used to do in baseball.

Washed and oiled the bike, took it out for a quick 5 mile ride. up a street, up a hill and back down at 30mph on a MTB :noes:

Cadel Evans, a former MTBer, was leading the tour de france and is now 3rd after today. He's still the fav to win :x:

Just got back from a bike ride.

9.5 miles, 8.3mph average, from 2600-3000ft. My trip thingy doesn't seem to be able to read past 16mph :hs: but I'm sure I was going pretty quick down the hills

I shamefully took a break last week due to my sleep schedule getting all messed up from staying up to watch the tour. Went back to work yesterday and did a few rounds on the bag in the back yard. My jab looks good but my cross needs a lot more hip. I need a new bag...all of the filling has dropped to the bottom and it's like kicking concrete. I want a banana bag this time. :X

Yesterday I rolled with a 300lb guy, but got pinned down and couldn't move him at all which sucked. :hs: Today my ribs felt sore, but I was able to escape. I wanted to work on side control to mount by pulling my outer leg through. I've lost some flexibility it seems so I'll work more on magnificent mobility stuff. Shit gets harder when you get older.

My bag is now clean and dry so I'm gonna stuff it 75% and use it as a throw and gnp bag.
