You're not going to get a very good gun for under $300.

12ga pump shotgun... remington 780. you cant get any decent pistol for under 300, and you certainly wont get a glock at a gunshow for 300... well, maybe someone selling one with a shotout barrel and beat to crap.

background check = NICS, phone call in, they give your info, call center says ok or no, or makes you wait 3 days. no felonies, no domestic violence, no pending charges, no restraining orders. shouldnt take more then 3 minutes, depending how busy they are.

The glock is a damn inexpensive pistol. I wouldn't buy a new pistol that's cheaper than it.

You can get a .22 for under 300 :dunno:

Only thing that is worth a hill of beans under $400 that is new would be a Ruger pistol. Although I'd buy a used Glock before I'd buy a Ruger. Like was said before, best home defense weapon is a 12 gauge, and a Remington 870 pump is the way to go.

There was a 870 with over 200 rounds of birdshot and buckshot for $200 local. I should have bought it :(

The gun shows here in Memphis are pretty sorry, seems like they raise the prices for the brothers. You don't see any of the old dealers selling fine guns.... I love to look at fine shotguns, and you used to be able to see quite a few at the shows, now you just see GAT's! Got yo Bersa 380's and the Jennings j-22's in nirkel! It sounds bad because it IS. :wtc: shame!

    ON TOPIC
For a handgun for under $400.00 you could buy a new charter arms revolver or Taurus revolver. I don't own any of them myself but have shot both and the Charter Arms undercover seems a fine pistol for the money.

you need to not worry about looks and hold several guns and see what fits your hand well. I'd encourage you to spend time at a range renting and shooting them to see which ones you like. Also if you're on a tight budget are you going to be able to afford a little training or even a safety class?

All that said a used metal frams s&w auto should be in your price range and reliable. 9mm is suggested, maybe a 5906 for $300-350

if you spend another $50 bucks or so you can maybe get a cz82 which would be cool. keltec has some cheap stuff in the $300 range, but its keltec :hsughno:

Instead of going to a gun show, why not look around on some online classifieds at different forums? You can grab good used handguns for way less than you would get one at a gun show.
