But they're so fucking expensive. Yes, I know they're not expensive in comparison with other Apple notebooks, but even the 12" G4 at $999 with my student discount is a lot for me. Though all over their website they have their financing plans advertised, and I start to think I can afford $20-25-ish a month.

But is it worth it? Has anyone used Apple's financing to purchase a computer? I read into it a bit more, and I discover one of the financing plans is 2 years of INTEREST ONLY payments of $11 a month.. and then you start paying off the computer. Is this kind of thing worth it? Or should I save up first and then buy?

Either way I'm dying for an iBook here. :)

I know what you mean :sad2: I picked up the 12" iBook G4 last week, it was way expensive for me :hs:

Here's what I had planned though - I'd get the iBook, the printer and the iPod - the Cram and Jam offer gives you $200 back when you buy an iBook and an iPod, and then you could sell the iPod for another $300 or so :) And if you get the $89 printer, it ends up being free after rebate, so if you wanted you could sell that too, but I think I'll be keeping mine :)

The tax on the whole deal made it a lot less sweet, but I called and asked why they charged tax when there was no Apple Store in Kansas and they explained why they charged tax. Then I asked if I could cancel because it was beyond my price range with the extra $100 tax, and they gave me a $60 discount  I would NOT recommend doing that though, it's kind of risky. I get the feeling I just got lucky, I actually called with the intention of actually cancelling :hs:

    Total - $1454 w/ tax
    $60 discount = $1394
    Printer rebate = $1305
    iPod rebate = $1105
    iPod + Ebay = ~$805

$805 for an iBook G4 w/ combo drive. And I got a free printer out of it :bigthumb:

i used it when i was in college. i justified it because i used the computer (and the other hardware and software that was also financed on the same Apple Loan) for doing freelance design work when i finished school, so the computer more than paid for itself many times over. if you are just getting it to surf the web and play games and not for anything really productive, then it's a litte harder to justify the hit you'll take from financing it.

They may be cheaper than PowerBooks, but they've narrowed the gap in options/performance recently. Now that they're offered with G4 processors and slot-loading drives, the only real advantages to the PB's are the SuperDrives and the nice aluminum enclosure.

Good point. The main use right now would be school work - note taking, papers, the usual. I do part-time graphic design for a local newspaper where we use OS X and I might be able to take some work home that way. I hadn't thought of freelancing as a way of justifying it however, though I've been meaning to get into some anyway. Thanks for the reply.

I suppose you can request it, but it's not a standard option. You are right. :bigthumb:
