Ok, I don't have a problem with them fighting piracy, but it's kinda douchey to also pull a move like this...

they're talking about those microsd memory cards

it sucks but those are unauthorized devices that reverse engineered the security. FYI those have updatable firmware so they could be updated to work again

here is a non-douchy scenario for you: Microsoft makes a legitimate change on their end that has a side effect of making it not work with unauthorized storage devices. Should they go out of their way to support the devices that circumvent their security? lol

    im not pissed about this.

What im pissed about is the fact they fucking do shit like this to push their HIGHLY fucking overpriced proprietary hardware.

If they would let you buy say, a microsoft certified hard drive case for even as much as 50 bucks, then fire in your own hard drive, shit would be great.

But they dont. They offer 3 flavors, 20, 60, and 120, all of which are priced at least 2x more than retail value.

I mean honestly? A 120gb hard drive for 135 bucks? Get fucking real. 60 bucks more gets you the system? So your telling me the technology in that hard drive is greater in cost and design than an entire fucking system?

Sony got this right. They should take a hint from their model and look at what it provides.

It not only gives the users the POWER of choice, but it lets them mildly "customize" and upgrade their own hardware, which most if not all men love to do.

Meh. Makes me dislike the direction they are going anyways. I wouldnt of even messed with a hacked hard drive if the prices were reasonable.

You guys mad. What that quote fails to say is that he links to an "authorized storage device" whcih is a 512mb memory unit. Later he says, "If you continue to use an unauthorized Memory Unit after the update, you will not be able to access your stored profile or saved games. "

This is the only retail memory unit that is unlicensed and therefore unauthorized.

Let's not jump to conclusions and rant when there is very little indication that hard drive clones will be blocked.

Reasonably sure that M$ views flashed Wester Digital Drives as an unauthorized memory unit. But we'll just see how it plays out. I couldn't care less either way as I dont have a 360

I'd be willing to bet that it is. M$ is going to do whatever they want to make more money any because they have such a big lead on Sony, they can force those shitty HDD prices.

Yeah, I saw the part about "possibly". Just hope it doesn't become a reality. Even though currently I don't have a HDD because it was stolen and I haven't replaced it yet because I'm still waiting for the 250GB HDD.bin image to be released. Would suck if they found a way to prevent those from working.

Yes, as they're totally raping people on the drives.

I got a 1gig drive for my computer for $80, but MS wants 200 for 120gb? Fuck them. If they want their box to be a media center sort of device with downloaded games and movies, they're going to need to drop the cost of media storage.

I still think that M$ may end up disabling those as well. For people that use them I'd hope not because I don't think anyone should have to pay those rediculous prices for a HDD.

The thing is those drives are no different than retail drives. The only way to tell what is what is because everyone is sharing the same secure sector file and if they wanted to put an end to that they would not need a dashboard update to do so.
