the most important thing is to tell the spotter exactly what you want. People will listen.

Starting lifting on 2, full lift on a silent 3, walk the bar out, transition weight into the hands (don't just release), don't touch the bar unless I'm about to lose teeth

I just stand there until the dude just yells spot or the weight is about to fall on him...then I help him out just a little bit...he does all the work

I dunno if this is the proper way to do it...

I like them not to touch the bar until it wont move, then to use 1 finger, tops. I will get it up, if iv gotten it up 5 times prior to them touching it.

I dont like it when they feel the need to hold the bar the whole time :o

I guess it seems simple to me. Dont touch unless I stop completely... then only enough help to keep it moving.

    I'll be more specific.

NO! it should not be "mostly" him. it should be all him and he should know it. Dont touch the bar or look like you are touching the bar before the weight starts moving the wrong direction or he ask for help.

Do give a lift off and do be careful when handing off from the liftoff. then keep your hands a visible distance away from the bar

It depends on what hes doing, if hes doing like a 400lb bench press you want your hands as close as possiblie in case if you have to take it in a flat sec. But usually you have people on the side for that

Agreed 100%. Be very specific about what you want and usually you'll get it. Also, I always tell the spotter if they take it to TAKE it, no working through a rep for me.

if they dont ask for specific details, i let them pause for 2-3 seconds then give just enough effort so they can complete the rep.

Best people to spot are the ones who get mad at you because you did not help them cheat on the last 3 reps and made them earn that good solid 1 rep.

how do you properly spot someone doing a military press.

I was asked to spot this one guy and it was my first time spotting someone doing MP. I just did under/over hand inside of his grip and just pulled it up.
