    yeah man.

I'm thankful that we were smarter then the natives.

    *We overpowered them with guns
*We gave them some of ours (and instigated wars so that they can wipe each other out)
*We raped their land and their women
*We set up prizes and bounties for the scalping of the natives (Scalping was not a native practice, the pilgrims taught that to the natives!)
*We taught the natives that Killing women and Children was fair game.

    Indeed.

Thanks for this awesome part of history.

Actually, the guns that they brought kinda sucked and mostly served for intimidation. Roughly 90% of the Native Americans that died after colonization died from diseases like smallpox and the flu. Having lived in isolation from all other humans populations for thousands of years, they had no resistance. But yes, some died in wars.

By the way, I'm a 1/4 Native American myself. Not like it matters, but it does makes me especially sick of the victim mentality that is being propagated.

Get your guilt shit out of this place, jeez live 300+ years in the past. You know lets not forget about the previous colonial Rulers and their role, instead we will just blame it on the U.S.A. Forget about spain and their slave trade of native americans, or the english, or french, instead we will just remember what a horrible role the US played and not everyone else.

    i think it's deserved for a bit.

I mean after 250+ years of us lying to our children, feeding them the story that the happy little indians and pilgrims enjoyed turkey and stuffing together.

I'm also part native, but even more diluted then you. about 1/8. Do i play the victim card? god no. What's done is done. I'm happy to see many people make amends for their forefathers wrong doings.

But unfortunately, the lies of 'thanksgiving' are still taught in schools today.

It's a tough call. I don't know if I'd want to deny my kids the experience of being a child and not knowing what a shitty place the world actually is. But I also wouldn't want them to be naive. This, along with a bunch of other conversations is something I'd probably have around the age 12 mark.

Were Canadians better at killing natives than Americans? That's why our thanksgiving was in October?

It's not that we were better, just more motivated - we're just too busy building igloos in November - so we made sure to kill the natives extra fast. Hunting in the winter sucks.

Canadians hunt and club seals. So you're all basically a punch of faggots.

Yeah, I don't have kids yet, but I have spent more than a minute randomly thinking about how I am going to treat these issues.

Will I tell them about Santa Clause just so they can find out it was a lie several years later.

Will I let them think Thanksgiving celebrates peaceful communion amongst friends.

Will I tell them about the Easter Bunny?

we didn't do the witchunt thing as much as turning tribes against each other, and imprisoning their children into birding schools to "reform" them.

BUt the real reason for the date... traditionally, thanksgiving festivals happened multiple times a year. In the past, we had celebrated one for the recovery of a sick english king.

For the most part, however - they were harvest festivals, held at the time of harvest. it didn't become nov 26th for the yanks until the late 1700s, after the revolutionary war.
