A couple people have told me that GMC trucks are built a little better than Chevy trucks. I really doubt that. Why is there a GMC if Chevy makes the same thing and vice versa? What am I overlooking here?

I don't know if they still are but GMC is supposed to be more luxiorious. Chevy is supposed to be the working man's truck and the GMC is supposed to be the professionals truck. Personally I like the Chevy better.

Just different options, slightly different appearance. Drivetrain and what not is mostly the same (some GMC speciality vehicles are different, the C3, the SyTy's, the Denali XL). It's just different options, chevy = base, gmc is a bit more luxorious, olds is even a little bit more, and then caddy is the most luxorious (ie. options + price). With the exact same options on any given vehicle I believe the GMC's are also a bit more expensive as well.

i believe the chevy counterparts have the same setups. the difference is option packages (i.e.-gmc sy/ty, envoy, c3, denali)

not really. The only things GMC puts in their particular vehicles are cosmetic. Wood trim, round AC vents, different headlight assemblies.. occasionally something as big as a hood..

The Gmc Sierra and S-15s and the Chevy Silverados and S-10s are basically identical. They have always been the same frame just different cosmetically. Until lately they started changing frames and suspensions slightly.
