Eventually only constructors will be involved with NASCAR, not manufacturers. Even NASCAR fans can admit there isn't really any difference between that "Ford Taurus", "Dodge Intrepid", and "Chevy Monte Carlo". Not only that, the racing series does nothing for their R&D nor does it represent their actual product.

it's more about sponsorship and R&D money than about the actual cars.

Almost right. :) If you don't think the manufacturers foot the bill for the R&D of the big teams, you should read up on toyota coming into the truck series. ;)

They do. And no there is nothing "stock" on a stock car.

Toyota might be jumping in for the short term because of the series' current popularity, but I'm speaking in the long run.

considering they have a common template for all manufacturers I'd say thats an astute observation

How can you have homologation and not have anything stock on a stock car?

witht he amount Toyota has already invested, you're looking at a minimum of 10-15 years, otherwise they'd be taking one hell of a loss.

:ugh: Do you have any idea of what GM, Ford, and Dodge spend every year on R&D for stock car racing?

No one "jumps" into Nascar for the "short term".

Of course not. Alky seemed to answer that NASCAR does have homologation rules, and that confused me.

Um because you do? :dunno: Who said the parts had to come from the manufacturer? The only thing that is an actual manufacturer part is the block, heads, bumper cover, tail cover, and floorpan.

They do, in terms of chassis, allowed engine specs, tires, rims, materials, etc, etc.

he was referring to the fact that the cars named exist. and they do have to resemble the production cars themselves, however they also are limited to templates and maximum/minimum dimensions.

the difference is that it's sorta reversed. You can tell GM styled the Monte Carlo to perform better in NASCAR.. imo

I had always heard "homologation" used as a comparison to a production car, not specification of parts.

Maybe I don't fully understand the concept of homologation, but there isn't a Taurus on the Ford showroom that's anywhere close to the NASCAR version.

The M3 GTR was disqualified from ALMS because it wasn't a production car. The STi and Evo8 are pretty close to the real thing.
