Just discussing this in the main.

Government has GM sell off Hummer.
China, who already has a hummer version they build with genuine GM parts and AMC engines buys the name so they can now call theirs true Hummers.

China will be able to import their Hummers back into the US.

Government tells GM to make small car which will probably sell for 30-35k

New Chinese Hummer H1 (which sold for 80-100k when GM made them) is selling now for 250k yuan. That comes to 36,600 US dollars.

I am SO buying one of those H1s and slapping a bumper sticker on it saying "thank you obama, chinese made!"

I can imagine all the environuts who were cheering when they heard GM sold Hummer that will be crying when they see the "new" Hummer H1s sitting on dealership lots selling for cheap.

People are going to flock to buy those things up. The H1 military version was the best 4x4 ever made.

    what hatred???

    I am fucking overjoyed!!!!!

I've always wanted an H1. I would buy one with cash in hand if I could get one for 36-40K.

GM's versions were going for as much as 100k though. This will save me 60 thousand dollars and it will be new, it will be a genuine Hummer with an AMC diesel engine and it will be a slap in the face to the government, the UAW and the environuts. I have a grin on my face right now that I can't wipe off.

    2 things

    1) they won't meet the new guidelines for fuel efficiency by a long shot so that $36k pricetag you're hoping for....will be much higher.
    2) this doesn't affect the price of gas....so the bitch about a hummer was it was moderately expensive....but that it sucked to spend $100 to fill up the tank. Something that hasn't changed.

I already drive an Avalanche with a 500cid engine. filling up a tank for $150 is typical for me. Big fucking whoop.

as for fuel efficiency, depends. This won't be a US made vehicle anymore. It's an import. :big grin:
and I'll get the diesel anyways. torque out the ass.

The shear hilarity of driving an H1 that thanks to numbnuts with no ability to see past tomorrow will save me tens of thousands.

Fuck changing. I'll keep the Avalanche too. Have that H1 sitting right next to her in the driveway with the blazer in the street.

that's the funny part to all this.

They aren't going off of individual mpg, but an average of their fleet.
China be pumping out little deathboxes using a 50cc engine and that's all they need to offset the H1.

Last time I heard, the H1 fell into a heavy duty category which meant that it didn't need to meet the same emissions requirements as other vehicles. The Chinese may have a roophole to undercut GM without the smog requirements.
All they need to do now is acquire GM's stake in Daewoo and you have purpose built cheap cars that meet smog and safety requirements.
