The only reason they are looking good is because of Cash for Clunkers and the fact they threw away all their terribly assets in bankruptcy.

My .02 says that Ford will be the dominant US automaker going forward....GM is at a terrible disadvantage.

Actually, no. They didn't gain any market share in the US. CARS may have helped keep them afloat, but that's it. The gains were in foreign markets.

So much for the government-controlled bankruptcy controlling cost and reducing debt.

GM is still just as bad off after their "bankruptcy" as they were before. Too many brands, too much capacity, too many employees and sky high labor wages (thanks to the government shielding the UAW).

Ford also has the same issues, don't kid yourselves. Except Ford accessed credit prior the meltdown last year and is currently living off of it. The only credit GM will be able to get now is from the government.

And you would suggest they do what, exactly?

I read that the UAW rejected Ford's latest contract. Great job, UAW, Ford's best midsized car is already made in Mexico, what is going to stop Ford from moving the rest of their plants out of the country?

I don't see GM ever repaying back the full amount of money you and I loaned to it. Instead it will stick around as a puppet company to transfer wealth to Dem. voters.

It's exactly the opposite. More of "Old GM" management has been purged.
