Coinciding with the release of General Motors' Viability Plan, the automaker has disbanded its High Performance Vehicle Operations team, the crew responsible for the line V-series Cadillacs, the Chevrolet Cobalt SS, HHR SS and the V8 version of the Colorado. According to Vince Muniga, a spokesman for the General, "All high-performance projects are on indefinite hold. The engineers are moving into different areas of the organization, and they will work on Cadillacs, Buicks, Chevrolets and Pontiacs." Muniga went on to say that there are no plans for high-performance versions of upcoming plans, but once (if?) GM is in a better financial position, the team could be reinstated.

Sad to see that go. I'd rather have them discontinue their Nascar racing program.

Where is this number coming from?

Vehicle development has stopped anyway, and GM doesn't have 3 years of money or bailouts.

good. focusing on high-end cars and forsaking everything else is part of what fucked them in the first place.

this is a good question, but it's not like they will redesign it in the next 6 years anyways, and the zr-1 is already developed.

In other news, GM is announcing they're going to stop making anything good and remake the Edsel and nothing else  A spokesperson for the company said "They've got to start buying cars SOME time, don't they? We're streamlining our operations and minimalizing our production line to produce one car because when customers come back.....they're gonna want that car"

No, the Corvette is a big stake in their profit numbers.
