I'm watching Jay's video on the ZR1, and as much as I feel he is a douche he really brings up an interesting train of thought.

It is truly sad to see one of the pioneer auto mfgrs struggling so much. I speak of GM.

Sure their shit ass cars of the 80s, and 90s, but really think about the stuff they pioneered.... magnetic shocks (like Jay said), cool key fobs in the C4 vette that unlocked as you jiggled them and walk towards the car in the early 90s.

6 speed strong as fuck trans they had Borg Warner build them. (forgetting about a weak ass 7.5" rear).

So lets hear about some neat ass GM innovation that made it into other cars.

Automatic heatlights. Called the Sentinal system on mid 80s Buicks.

Okay, poor execution but an aluminum block in Caddys in the 80s.

First fully digital (and subsequently failed) dash in Chev Beretta?

Shit... these guys really did try.... but did fail on numerous occasions.

How about the expensive paint to protect the carbon fiber roof on ZR1?

Till about the early 70's the vette was one of the most innovative cars on the road.

disc brakes, independent rear suspension, use of fiber optics

The first modern mass production fuel injected engine? (427 fuelie?)

Fiber optics on a lot of the Cadillacs for the turn signal indicators on the front fenders to let you know if the lights were actually working?

AFAIK, other than Audi they are the only ones using direct injection engines.

They didn't invent the heads-up display, but I think they were the first to put it in a production car. Should be an option on every-fucking-thing, including class 8 trucks.

My GTPs have 'em, and I like them.

I'd love to force-feed one of those. Hell, they were strong in stock form.

lets not forget GM got the first production electric car out, and just failed to go anywhere with it.

    Also, they never invented it

But GM was the first to implement ABS in the Australian market out of practically any manufactuer, and also one of the first with airbags

and it has electronic stability control standard across the commodore range in 2006, heaps of other similarly priced cars still don't have that.
