How many of you here use lifting gloves? I'm thinking of getting one for DL's since I don't want gigantic calluses on my hands, and plus my grip kinda sucks. I asked friends and some said that gloves are amazing while others say they're for wimps. If you use gloves what brand do you recommend?

yes... gloves are for pussies. watch this thread and you will see. OMG YOU'RE GOING TO GET SOME INFECTION! That is the essence of pussy.

gloves will hinder your grip, file you callouses down and you'll be fine.

    i used to wear gloves
learned that you have better control and grip without gloves IMO.

i finally started to use chalk and that was something i wish i used years ago! I always thought I had crappy grip but it was caused by the sweat on my hands

I use my harbinger strap gloves as pockets days my gym shorts don't have any :o

I quit using them years ago and the difference I saw in my grip strength was pretty noticeable.

One of my callouses stripped off doing DLs this week actually, blood everywhere... took the fresh skin off too.

Definetly sucks when you do DLs first. Had to put a towel around my hand and finish the work out.

We'll see how chest goes tomorrow, it is still cut open.

Super glue; great cure for ripped of callouses during a workout. Apply a little to the wound, let it dry and good to go.

Well another consideration that I didn't want to bring up is that my girlfriend says my hands feel really rough.. I mean are gloves so bad for your grip that you should never use them?

I just started DLs recently and at this rate I'll have giant sandpaper bumps and I don't think she'll be very happy with it.

I just tell my gf too bad

or you can put rice+something in a bucket and squeesze it... it will make your callouses smooth. i just keep it rough so I feel a bit manly

Get a pair of soccer socks and wear those when you DL. You want to see some fugly shins? Some of the people I train with have basically one long scar in the front starting from the mid shin to a little above the knee. Also, athletic tape works well. Place a strip a little below where contact begins and than and wrap a few times around the you leg on top and bottom. Keeps bleeding to a minimum and lets previous wounds heal better. Looks funny, but if you are concerned about how you look while lifting, you need to change priorities.

fuck that. I tried taking various metal tools (files, tweezers, knife) to my callouses just to see what would happen and it always causes tearing and tenderness after i remove them....

i just wear em and take pride in it these days. then again if I DL'ed 600lbs i bet they'd be way bigger and more annoying.

I still get calluses with gloves. I understand the grip argument, but gloves have their place in the gym imo.
