COMIC Given the success of Cowboy Bebop, why didn't they continue the series?

I'm a huge fan of Cowboy Bebop, but I've never understood why the series ended so soon. To me, it seemed like the series could have continued for a fairly long time without running out of decent material. Spike may have been one of the best anime characters ever created and Faye, Ed, Ein, and Jet were all very memorable as well. Will there be a continuation in the future?

Prequel is a good idea, cant do much after Spike dies. Problem with prequel is no Faye. That would be a bummer.

The series was short and sweet. Just enough to slake the thirst for an excellent anime. Best anime ever, actually.
A prequel would be good. But like all second (third, fourth, etc) movies, it could be too corny to be good, as if the animation and stuff takes a back seat to the behind-the-story stories.

That would suck hard. Really hard.

It was fine where it was, and how it ended. It was meant to end this way and was planned for it. Watanabe doesn't have any want to go and do a continuation of the series aa he's happy with the way it ended. The only reason he did a movie was because of the large fanbase clamour for more. I would rather have it end as awesome as it did than go and continue and get stale.

look at kenshin.. it was very good and then got totally badass during the kyoto/shishio episodes... after that it went to shit

another example would be dragonball.... i know alot of people hate dragonball, but dbz fans will tell you that it went to shit after GT starting coing out.

    Inuyasha is another example

well dbz was meant to be over after freiza, but the fans wanted more so they made the andriod and cell series and after that the fans still wanted more so they made the buu series... then you have gt, which is the worst of all of db

i totally agree. two words for bebop: played out. it was short. it was sweet. it was complete. the movie was good. nothing more needs to be done. i could see an OVA or something like that but that would be sketchy as all hell.

I think prequel would be really cool. :)

  13. Prequel would be fun.. But I'm happy w/the series and Knocking on Heaven't Door.

I get the impression that, unlike the US, most Japanese producers don't make gratuitous sequels and prequels in the name of making a profit. :greddy: Of course, DBZ and Inu Yusha are the notable exception.

You can't really blame them, they ran out of manga material so they just pulled stuff out of their ass. :embd:

cowboy bebop was good as it was... there was no need to prolong the story because that would just be shitty...

there will be a new anime made by the same creator... and its called Samurai Champloo... ya'll should check it when it comes out in april...

Theres a different plot to each gundam show. :ugh:

Gundam is different. It's different scenarios and characters for each series for the most part, though a few of'em were lacking.

Yeah, no reason to continue with Bebop, any Ova or Prequel wouldn't have that Bebop feel to it. When a creator spawns something like Bebop, and a character such as Spike, it's for a reason, not the profit. And obviously he's acomplished this goal, so there won't be anything else continued; my opinion.
