    I hate my current DD.

I finally bitched and moaned and now the wife has said "whatever".

As soon as I sell it, I can buy something else.

    I want some OT input.

    Mandatory characteristics:
    1. $5000 budget. This is a hard ceiling, so no '69 Camaro's for me.
    2. American.
    3. More than 4 cylinders.
    4. 5 seats. No Vettes, Fiero's, etc.

    Preferred characteristics:
    1. V8.
    2. GM.
    3. RWD.
    4. Manual Trans.
    5.

For example, I just found a '68 Falcon 2 door that looks tasty at $3k, there's a 305 Iroc that's been for sale forever that I'm thinking on calling on, and I can get a fox-body for $3k to $4k all day here.

    What are your thoughts/suggestions/flames?

  2. With that budget and those preferences I think your only real option is a 3rd gen Camaro. You should be able to find a pretty decent one with the 350 for 5k.

That's what I'm thinking, but I have to drive it to work so I was hoping to luck into something "classier".

The '68 Falcon just got listed today and it's a sweet burgundy color with some decent old school rims on it. No idea what the interior looks like, but since it'll be sold before my POS is I'm not too worried over it.

Also, the preferences aren't mandatory. I'd take a non-GM if the right car showed itself.

  4. I wouldn't worry about the "classiness" of the camaro. I've seen some pretty nice ones. People that say shit about those who drive camaros ususally don't know anything about the cars. You should get what you like and don't worry about ignorant jackasses who try to make you feel bad about your car. Odds are they have some fucking riced out civic that couldn't run a sub 16 second 1/4 to save its life. The fact is the 3rd gen is reasonably priced, has a MASSIVE aftermarket, and has pretty damn good performance potential.

No, I'm good with all that. I have to worry about client/coworker opinion.

I like the third gen, and since I wear a suit and tie every day I don't consider myself redneck/mullet boy, but the corporate culture around here relies on opinion a great deal, so I have to take that into account.

  6. In that case I'd save up a bit more. I don't think there's anything for 5k that won't make you look kind of redneck in a corporate environment.

Dodge Caravan with the turbo 2.5L and the 5-speed ftmfw.

Here's some fine examples. It doesn't take much money to get gobs of power out of the old mopar turbo 4's.

You can also get non Implala LT1 Caprice/Caprice Wagons for pretty cheap.

The Taurus SHO is another neat 5 seat car. The 5-speed ones are pretty common and are pretty cheap as well.

Btw, the Falcon Futura is one of my favorite cars.

if you live in jersey you could get an amazing looking fox body for 5k, but it isn't a GM

bull, I haven't seen an MTX SHO for sale in almost a year in my area. I wish I lived in Michigan, that place is crawling with SHOs.

get a lincoln mark VIII...great car for the money plus 300 hp(mustang cobra engine 4.6L dohc 32v), air suspension that automatically drops 1 1/2 inches once u reach 70 mph, plus the luxury of lincoln...how can u go wrong..at least check it out

edit: i got a 1993 mark viii with 60,000 miles on it in excellent condition for $6k

edit again: also forgot to mention even with the 290hp they get 18city/25highway...but from personal experience i usually get 20/27 but it is hard to keep my foot out of the throttle of this 3800lb beast

well i drive a lot and 17mpg gets old real fast. i love the power and all, but driving long trips gets old after a while.

    driving in the winter sucks.

mine has never left me stranded, if i was going to buy a dd right now, i would get a svt focus they have a 6 speed, some have recaro seats/heated seats and HID headlights, 170hp. I wouldnt mind driving that everyday.

Sounds like you need an LS400. V8 cammer with 4 doors, leather, and all for under 5k (for a 90s). It's a yota, so it'll last a while.

    Not a chance.

I've driven at least two generations of that pig- an LS400 and an LS430.

If I wanted to drive an LS Lexus I'd strap a big block to my couch and save some coin.
