Thats a really subjective question, because even stuff from brands like pyramid and jensen could be used in "competition" cars to great success.

Some usually well regarded brands are:

    Adire
    Brax
    Audison
    JL
    Image Dyamics
    Focal
    Morel
    Vifa
    Crystal
    Resonant Engineering
    Stryke
    Butler
    CDT
    Dynaudio

    And the list goes on...

heh not to degrade any of the aforementioned companies but i would put an MTX RFL sub up against any sub in an SPL comp.

No way could one 15 hit 170, unless the mic was hot.

about 3 or so years ago. single 15" DD9500 with 4 DEI 1100d. extreme 1-2 class with his car basically cemented. 170.8db in db drag. mic was not hot at all. it was the B&K mic, world's most accurate mic. used to measure all world records. he holds the record for the loudest 15" right now. also installed a 10" dd9500 with 2 Viper 2500.1 amps and got 169db.

I'm not saying it was anything really special given the the more common occurances of 170's these days. Especially since at 172, he didn't even win (winner was at 173 or 174) but it wasn't a hot mike it it was a iasca run show in nashville
