It would still power on. Sounds like a Dc-in board or logic board.

Buying a MacBook is a good idea no matter what, but sometimes ebay can be your friend on buying parts. I've had to rebuild the logic board on my iBook several times due to the common failure on them, course thats the perks of graduating EE :big grin:

I ended up passing it to my mother and buying an MB.

try the battery on someone else's PB to see if it charges properly or borrow power adapter. Once you rule those two out, it's time to start thinking logic board since the Dc in board will function one way or the other usually (on dc or ac, but it still won't charge the battery if dead)

Also how old is it? Sometimes Apple extends their warranty on things such as the logic board if there is common failure on a certain model. I had a problem with my logic board last year, took it to the apple store and they fixed it for free.

it's a few years old, 1.5 Ghz is the actual model. uses UATA HD.. but i'm not seeing that on newegg.

Does newegg sell a drive that would work on that? ATA-6???

I'm not up to date on my HD technology that isn't SATA
