A friend of mine recently found out that her ex-bf tested poz for HIV. Her and I never slept together, but for some reason it scared me shitless. Her test came back neg, and now I'm going to a free clinic in about an hour to get tested. The last time I got tested was about 4 years ago. :eek4:

Just do it for piece of mind. Every year whether or not i have slept with someone new i always get tested for the spectrum of STDs just so i know i am clean. :bigthumb: to you for taking the initiative! Good luck on the test and don't sweat it too much...

:werd: I'm going on the 14th for that wonderful yearly exam every woman should do, and I'm having the full spectrum done, including HIV even though until recently, I had only been with one person and had been tested twice for HIV while with them. It's better for piece of mind.

Good for you. I think anyone who is sexually active should be tested after every partner....even when you're not just paranoid you have something.

I wonder why men aren't usually encouraged to go in for the comparable checkup. :mamoru:

Can we have some details about the ex? Is he in L.A.? This is scary to think he may have slept with a girl I have slept with.

And HIV doesn't always show up right away. I think the time frame is usually around six months from infection to it showing up on tests.

It can take up to 6 months for the infection to show, which is why after one test, they recommend a follow up at 6 months, if you've been exposed. The CDC also recommends regular HIV screenings for every sexually active person.

    Here's a link to more info: http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/topics/testing/guideline.htm

A urologist can check things out and give you a prostate exam, but they don't need to stick anything in there. I'd never allow that to happen.

DO NOT go to a FREE health clinic! Jesus, I was the 14th person in line (the very max) and ended up staying there for 4 hours! They asked me about my sexual history, took a urine and blood sample, gave me some condoms, and sent me on my way. That alone took about an hour.

Next time I'll either go through my regular doctor or pay extra for www.sxcheck.com which I heard you're in and out in 30 minutes.

You can get the HIV DNA/PCR test which detects HIV after just 10 days, but they recommend to wait at least 30 days.
