Alright, so I dropped out of photography for 5 or so months because I got married, and deployed to the middle east. Sold pretty much all of my equipment. Coming back in May and have decided to get back into the "game".

I shot Canon before (350d :o) and would like to stay with Canon, unless someone can convince me otherwise. I am open.

My thoughts so far for Canon is either 5dmk1 or 50d.

Also want to buy nice L lens. And probably a flash...

I mostly plan to shoot fashion/modeling. Some random car shoots (still). Random outdoot scenery. Prolly no sports.

    So what do y'all think?

    Thanks!! :wavey:

    I missed you all OTAP

My vote is for the 5D and a 24-70 2.8.

Would be perfect combo for you.

That is exactly what I've been thinking. 24-70 for sure.

Still waiting for the Nikonians :mamoru::o

5D classic is the cheapest way to get into FF, and still produces some of the best IQ of any body. 24-70L would be perfect for what you want to shoot.

If you can afford it, can't go wrong w/ the D700 and a used 28-70 2.8! Of course, the 5D is going to be a great price these days because of the new one being out, but its also outdated in its own sense... none the less, a great camera still. 5 years later.

Nikon products will cost you more money, and depending on who you ask, they have certain lenses that are better than Canon. On the flipside, Canon has all the badass primes. If brand isn't the issue, go play w/ the D700 and the 5D, then make up your mind.

Bodies go for 1200-1300ish. Pretty good deal for the 50 1.4 and body...the 50mm goes for 300.

I'd jump on it. Shouldn't be an issue at all.

You say "full frame here I come" and then you put the 50D in the poll. I'm confused.

He was mentioning that he's getting a new body, and perhaps full frame was an option. 50D was another option if he didn't go to full-frame.

^^that being said... i'm really happy with my 50d, but if you can get a refurb 5d for the same price, i'd go for the 5d.

I was faced with the same dilemma. I ended up going 50D route ONLY because i got it for $800us shipped for nearly brand new (guy needed money asap).

    Otherwise, I would've gone for the 5d mk1 and the 24-70 combo

D3 and D700 are both excellent bodies, and are handling noise quite well:o.

Can't go wrong with either. And of course the 24 or 28-70/2.8 would be the first lens to put on it, followed by the 70-200/2.8 IMO.
