How can I get faster rates with my wireless connection?

I have a 54mbps linksys router and a USB linksys 54mbps device that im using with my PC

I only download at like 250k/s max. When I go to my hardwired computer I can get like 600 k/s

    Connect at?

Im getting an "Excellent" signal from my G router. My linksys monitor stil says the transfer rate is 54Mbps too.

Maybe its not in a USB 2.0 port?? What is the bandwidth of USB1.1? :hs:

USB1.1 is supposed to be 12Mbps. That shouldn't be the bottleneck unless you have lots of other stuff on your USB bus.

There is an overhead for encryption, though I dont think it should be that bad. Is it a very slow processor?

List your computer specs and what you have plugged in via USB on a normal basis.

well, thing about it. a signal needs to be encrypted, then converted to radio, then your adapter needs to recieve it and decrypt it...of course wireless will be slower than wire.
