I've been looking into photography for awhile now and have a few questions about it. It's also a expensive hobby which also makes me wanna learn a little more before i dive into it.

    1. I was wondering what is the best why to learn about the hobby? ( i plan on taking a photography class next quarter)
    2. Would it be best to go out and get a good slr right off the bat? (I'm thinking about the canon xt http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Canon-Digital-Rebel-XT-Digital-SLR-Camera-Kit/sem/rpsm/oid/129273/catOid/-13062/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do)
    3. What in your guy's opinion is the best software to use for the pictures?

There's some more i can't think of right now, but any info would be great help thanks.

p.s did look at the faq, just looking for some personal opinions and what worked best for some of you guys

you can "aquire" Photoshop CS2 if you look in the right places :hsugh:

Rebel XT is a good start...

In your photography course you are most likely going to be required to have a film camera, not digital. Perhaps hold off on the dSLR until you complete the class. Photography may not be for you, or you may just decide to stick with film.

if you're taking a photography class... there's a chance you might still be in college? check with your yearbook dept and see how it's run. at my school you can get paid to take a digital rebel xt and just go snap pictures at 2 events a semester. and submit at least 50 shots every two weeks.

i'm doing it next semester. free chance to play around with a plethora of cameras/lenses/equip.
