iPod touches start at $300 and an iPhone 3g is $200 with more features...am I missing something here, or is this not possible? Do you need an AT&T cell plan to use your own device? I still have a year on my verizon contract so switching providers is out for the time being.

No way around that? Can I cancel within a week or so after signing? Can I buy it in the store and then take it home and unlock it?

yeah but if you cancel your AT&T service you pay a ridiculous early termination fee.

your best bet is to find a refurb ipod touch on apples website. they've got some great deals right now

    just google "apple refurbished"

I like the touch, but it's just not big enough. It's a lot sleeker than my iPhone though. I had them both at one time and the TOUCH WAS MUCH BETTER LOOKING. The iPhone is kinda thick and dumpy in comparison to the black trim, thin touch. I was definitely feeling the touch more in the looks and feel department, it just didn't hold enough so I chunked it for an 80g.

You could buy a used version one iPhone that has already been activated and then just not activate the phone. Once its been activated you can get access to all the features, but Apple has it locked till its actually activated. Just for the sole reason you're thinking of getting one.

Oh darn. :wtc: Guess I'll just have to wait the year till my verizon contract expires and get one the real way.

Thanks for all the replies.
