I'm getting another laptop, specifically for college, and i am seriously considering one of those tiny ibooks or powerbooks, but i have never used a mac in my life. Are they easy to pick up? Im pretty skilled with windows and i dont know how similar they are so Id appreciate your advice even though i know you all will be biased toward the apples.

Also i was looking at the specs on ibooks and powerbooks and i noticed they have Radeon 9200 g cards(which is okay i guess, dont really know) but slower cpu's(about 1.33 to 1.66). So i was wondering if this cpu was fast enough for some of the games out now, and actually how much emphasis i should place on getting a super fast cpu with a good graphics card.

for one, check out the games on the apple website to see if the games you play come in a OSX format.

two, the speed of the processor isn't truly comparable to that of a windows counterpart. the number, though lower than most windows machines, will run just as fast, if not faster than some.

I was able to get an idea of how OSX ran when I first made the switch and I really didn't know anything about it. Now its the only thing I use.

does that mean if you look up the requirements for your cpu on a game and it says 1.5 GHz for windows, then it would be lower than that for a Mac

If there's a mac version of the game, there should be seperate mac system requirements.

i wouldn't recommend gaming on a mac--just buy an xbox or something. but i've was a pc user my entire life and i switched a year ago--it took literally a day to get used to and now i can't turn back...

Gaming on a Mac is great. IF the game(s) you want to play are available. WarcraftIII, UT2k4, Neverwinter Nights, etc all run great on my powerbook (1.5GHz 17"), as does the best game in the universe: Starcraft II (sc2.sourceforge.net) (its free! go get it!)

But then im not big into computer games, i generally prefer consoles, and the delay in release times doesnt bother me at all.

A 15" powerbook with the radeon 9700 will run games about as well as you can expect any laptop to.

thanks for the help, but I'll probably just go to some electronic store like best buy and get another cause i just want the smallest/most powerful one i can find.

I do have an xbox and I'll go out and get the 360 when it comes out in Nov. but i just figured why not game on a comp too, especially online. Mostly i just play FPS and that type (splinter cell series) and sports games, but i dont play sports on computers cause they suck. and i noticed there wasn't counter-strike for the mac, whats up with that?

Half Life was never ported to the Mac, thanks to Valve and their stubbornness.

    there, fixed!

The speed of the processor won't change between the two platforms but when you throw in bus, HD and RAM speeds, most macs will run faster with a slower processor than a pc with a higher processor.
