Decided to get the newly introduced 1.8GHz G5 tower instead of the 20-inch iMac. Going to get a 20-inch studio display to go along with it as well. My brother in law has a friend who works at Apple and can get me his friends and family discount. $1274 for the tower and $999 for the display. Pretty awesome deal and when I decided to upgrade my tower years down the road I won't have to part with the display. Also the upgradeablity of the tower is a big plus.

That is a pretty good deal on the tower. One thing I have never been into was paying an outrageous amount for apply displays, if I had the money I soo wouldn't mind because they look awesome and the scream respect, but for $1000 you can get two 19" monitors, DVI, the whole works instead of just one 20". That is just my opinion.

Going to have to use my 19" ViewSonic CRT for a couple weeks before I order the display. Going to upgrade the RAM first and everything else can wait awhile.

What 19" LCD with DVI costs $500? Is it widescreen too?

Never heard of that first brand BenQ, but pretty good reviews. I think I will still will go with the Apple Display. The looks alone make it worth it.

There is no better display I have ever seen produced from an LCD better then my 20" apple display. BTW, with such a good discount, why not at least bump up to the 2.0 with so much more added in besides the processor speed?

I think for the price, the 1.8 will serve me fine. I could have gotten the dual 1.8 for $1700, but again I think I will be happy with the single 1.8 for my purposes.

And yeah, that 20" display is gorgeous. Do you have the new aluminum one or older studio display?

    What is your setup?

They still sell the single 1.8? I have the aluminum mesh dual G5 2.0 that I picked up from the apple Store with the aluminum 20" wide lcd (left, tower on the floor behind the chair). I'm now selling my PC (center) I bought 2 months ago before I got the Mac. Then there is the 3 in 1 and 15" PowerBook my GF picked up at the same time.

Nice. I have to wait on the monitor. Getting the 20" Cinema Display for $999 in 2 weeks probably. They came out with a new single 1.8 at $1499. The bus speed is lower at 600Mhz instead of 900Mhz. Otherwise it is pretty much identical.

BTW, I got my shipping confirmation from Apple last night. According to FedEx it should be here tomorrow. Also ordered 2 x 512MB of Crucial DDR400 RAM from Newegg which should be here tomorrow as well.

Got the G5 tower last Friday and boy is it impressive. I fits my needs quite well and with the added 1GB of RAM everything is very quick.

The monitor just showed up about 20 minutes ago. No more having to use my ViewSonic 19" CRT. It just didn't quite feel like a Mac using that monitor. Here are some pics.
