:werd: I've only given my email to my family and friends, and I've yet to recieve any spam from it. I've got a seperate email for signing up for stuff like messageboards and online transactions.

Also, make sure you dont' click on the wrong links you receive from friends and family. I accidently clicked on the wrong link for a "e-mail card" and instantly I started to receive spam.....

FYI, the link I accidently clicked on was to join their 'daily newsletter' or something around that sorts that added my e-mail address to their spam list.. I unsubscribed moments after but was too late. :(

The best I've found is a program called Spamkiller. It runs in the system tray and polls the POP server every few minutes. Non-spam is left on the server to be picked up by your regular email client while spam is pulled into spamkiller. It has a list of literally thousands of rules and known spammers and is updated periodically. I skim through my spamkiller folder periodically in case a real email got in there by accident. You can also add your own rules to either permit or deny emails based on whatever your specify.

I've got four levels of email address: personal, semi-personal, public, and porn... Unfortunately my personal one has gotten out through mailing lists and such and I now get waaaay too much spam on it :(
