    C2D Blackbook (2.0GHz C2D, 1GB RAM, 120GB HDD): $1300
    C2D Macbook Pro (2.16GHz C2D, 1GB RAM, 120GB HDD): $1600

Need to be able to: Watch HD movies, do work, surf the internet, fire up an emulator or some older games.

Want to be able to: Play some newer games, transport with ease.

Getting $300 worth of accessories either way (external HD, mouse, RAM, bag), so the price is going to go up anyway. My max is $2000, but I don't want to waste money on the MBP if the blackbook can take care of that stuff.

Which one is right for me?

3rd party employee purchase price on a refurb? though those seem a bit steep for that...refurbs through a college with a student discount?

regardless of the source, get the MBP. no question.

for that kind of difference, on your posted budget, it's not even a question. definitely go with the MBP. black MB's are over rated.

more details on that price plz :eek3: 20% off the mbp, sounds like the Apple Developer connection for students... they allow a one-time 20% off on hardware purchase  but you have to pay $99 to have the membership

apple store employees get 25% IIRC so it's probably not that

Oh, the price is not likely to be found elsewhere. I actually am getting it through my school's (Rutgers) computer store. They have some kind of educational agreement with Apple that allows them to drop prices on certain items.

What do you feel the MBP has over the blackbook, other than a higher resolution/larger screen, and slightly faster processor?

    Or is that why? :o

    aluminum > plastic.

I just had my entire casing replaced due to annoying cracks/squeaks, etc. Different build quality....you get what you pay for :dunno: also, graphics... this thing can barely push my 2007fpw @ 1680x1050 :hsugh:

I'll be honest, I LOVE the macbook pro's screen. Its very portable (watching movies in cars, on planes etc, and working at a library), and the screen is amazing. Infact, I hate having to use my friend's Macbooks after using my Macbook Pro just because the screen is amazing and it just feels better. Plus it doesn't slit your wrists (big problem on the macbooks).

Also, the dedicated video ram is great. I've been runing Maya 8.5 (full graphic animation program, used in LOTR etc) and have yet to have it lag up to not be able to render something.

And the backlit keyboard is a plus too :big grin:

Well the MBP I'm looking at only has 128mb discrete memory, and I don't believe it has Hypermemory either.

In any case, that should be a significant step up from the GMA950. :o

Do you have the glossy or matte screen? I want to see them side-by-side to compare, but the local Apple Store only stocks the glossy's.

Matte. My friends have glossys on thier Macbooks and they get covered in smudges and it REALLY shows, on the Matte its not that noticeable. I also use it in the light a fair amount, and the way its setup in my room I don't think a glossy would be ok. On top of that I just like the matte look more. Glossy feels cheap and plasticy.

Also, I'm sure there is a Macbook Pro near one of the Apple displays, can't you compare those two? Don't they use a similar screen, if not the same thing?

I think a refurb is the same price as what I'm getting.

Seems like the general consensus is for the MBP. :)

i was trying to choose between a c2d macbook and a cd pro. i went with the macbook just because its so much smaller, and the keyboard feels alot better (to me at least).

mostly it was the size though. the macbook is the perfect size to carry with a couple books in a backback or messener bag.

Looks like I'll be getting it though.
Well, I picked up a Macbook and MBP at the Apple Store, to see how much they weigh, and they're almost identical. The MBP is slightly larger (duh) but I don't think I'll really have a problem carrying it. 5 pounds? Whatever. :p
