Does anyone have any experience with any Gen 1 Night vision equipment? I'm looking to spend under 500 on a goggle type system and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations?

Also on newer models whats the life expectancy on the generation 1's?

    Thanks in advance.

I don't plan to wear them all the time... just in Law enforcement I would like to be able to see where i'm going when i have to chase someone in the woods... :big grin:

Not really ideal for "chasing someone" and end up having to wrestle them down and restrain them. Not only would it cause you injury and possibly break the equipment, it would be something that would resrict what your trying to do.

But I see what you're saying.

Chasing with NVGs is really not as easy as it sounds. The depth perception problem leads you to have no clue where the hell your enemy is at.

    /canadians lack NVG training. :hsd:

Use infrared vision instead. This will probably prove more useful at finding someone in the dark. No matter where they hide, they can still be found.

Yeah, they are pretty shitty. :hsd:

I don't have a clue how good NVG can actually be used.

depth perception will own you and you will jam those fuckers in your eyes when you either fall on them or run into a tree

what is it with you people and saying you can not manuever quickly in woods at night with night vision. i have done countless field problems which involve Battle Drill 1A which requires you to bound towards an objective in order to clear it at night with nightvision. yeah the new guys are all fucked up when they do it the first few times but everyone gets used to it. theres a reason why the US military "owns the night".

Lots of new faces in Teh Barracks since you left. It's hard keeping up with 'em all, much less figuring out who's served, who's gonna serve, and who's just pretending. :dunno:
