This effect is fun. Gel your flash with a CTO, set your WB to tungston, then shoot. The CTO color corrects for the tungston WB, so your subject is the right color, but the rest of the frame become crazy ass blue.

I shot this in jpg, no post done at all.

as it gets darker outside, the effect gets CRAZY dramatic.

Girth, imagine this shot with a bride and groom instead of a silly dog...

I really do want to try it the next time I'm out w/ a couple... now I hope the ones from Key West book me. Imagine how cool that would be around sunset on the water. :eek3: :noes:

That's the same techquine you find in Sports Illustrated all the time. I need to make a gel holder for my flashes and get out and try some portraits like this.

How do you attach the gels to your flashes? I've melted a couple just taping them to my flash head--that was a bitch to get off of my 383.

I've never melted one on either of my SB600's. I just use gaffers tape and tape em right onto it.

Do you usually shoot at low power? I guess mine was a full power pop just to see what would happen, and sure enough, melted dark purple gel all over my 383.

I did get the tungsten gel with my SB900, but haven't done anything with it as of yet...

certainly worth checking next time I do a model shoot or something

you know the white balance setting on your camera just affects the yellow/blue balance
