wearing military inspired uniform is one thing, bastardizing dress uniforms like this is another. but i guess it takes someone that has earned to wear this to understand.

I am not a Marine, and even I think that is down right disrespectful to everyone that is.

Gay trend. Those jackets should never be worn anywhere but a formal event. Field jackets are alright, depending on who's wearing them. I wear a Vietnam era field jacket to school when it's too cold for a T-shirt, but not cold enough for my real winter jacket. It's when the emo/scene kids wear them, because it's "the scene thing to do," when it pisses me off.

don't put too much importance on a piece of fabric. the individual and the ideal that the fabric represents will endure.

it's like flag-burning - while it infuriates me and personally offends me to see people desecrate our flag, it's just a piece of fabric, and the noble ideas that it represents transcend any kind of vandalism that some idiot could do to it.

That "piece of fabric" is part of MY piece of fabric and represents more than that KID would ever begin to know.

    think about it this way.

in your dress blues (or whatever you marine guys call your 83749204 uniforms), you are a United States Marine

in your utilities, you are a United States Marine

in jeans and a t-shirt, you are a United States Marine

YOU are a United States Marine - no piece of fabric creates or changes that

obviously this goes for any service, but i used you as an example

Dress Blues are more than just any old uniform.

I don't really care, fashion wise I think it looks retarted but if they want to look like an idiot let them. Getting to caught up in the pretty side of the Marine Corps, the pretty coats, shiny brass and white gloves is the best way to insure that you'll hate what it actually is.

I do think this part is funny though, "This jacket was made famous by the likes of Jimmy Hendrix and The Who"

I don't really know anyone who sees a Marine and thinks hey that's Jimmy's jacket. :mamoru:

You're right, it's that uniform that stays rolled up in a ball at the bottom of your sea bag until Nov 10 then it goes right back away. :dunno:

All it is when you aren't wearing it is another optional thing you don't even have to have in your wall locker than you can get hit on during an inspection if it isn't perfect.
