I think it is garbage how if an AF member earns a school patch such as the ranger tab, they are not authorized to wear it. This promotes morale, esprit de corps and all that jazz.

i met and talked with a AF combat controller who was attached to an army unit (1st Infantry Division, Big Red 1) and had an army unit patch with ranger tab above it on his sleeve, he also had airborne wings on his bdus.

    :dunno:

AFSOC does what they want. As for the rest of the AF, we have to do what we are told, which is "NO NON-AF SERVICE PATCHES ARE AUTHORIZED"

Usually, if you are serving with the Army or other units you can wear the patch as long as you are in the unit. I am talking about other patches such as the Ranger Tab, and Air Assult, etc.

If you are actively working with the Army and performing duties that the badges/tab represent then you are allowed to wear them. The minute you leave the unit you have to remove the badges. This also does not include TDY status.

The regs state ( i only know this b/c I happened to read them this week) that they are authorized while an AF member is assigned to a Army unit.

Still, you earned it you should be able to wear it no matter what unit you are assigned to.

I live right near 4th ANGLICO and damn near all the Marines there have gone through Ranger School but none of them are allowed to wear the Ranger tab.

marines might not get as many tabs and insigna, etc. as the other american branches but they certainly do get just as many ribbons from what I've seen in pictures for doing shit like taking a dump on their own, judging from the amount and age. Canadians are lucky to get a ribbon for a deployment..
