So after the painfully long 10 day wait, I FINALLY picked up my M1 Garand. Its one of the new-run Springfield .308's with a serial number in the low 7 millions :)ugh:). This thing is such a beauty, I can't wait to shoot it.

    Anyways, here are some pics:

Dont worry, the clips (ha, this time its actually a clip!) never went farther in than that.

If anyone knows any speciality sites, let me know! All i've heard of so far is CMP and fulton armory.

Gun show this weekend... Hopefully i'll find a reasonably priced leather sling, bayonet, stock cleaning kit, clips and ammo.

Man is that beautiful, where did you get it from? Also what kind of ammo is that? Also since I'm about 10 minutes south of you, where do you plan on shooting it?

I got it from Turners. Its .308 Win, not the .30-06 (which is pretty hard to find for cheap). Still looking for places to shoot it. All I know of so far is Lythe Creek, Raahauges, and san gabriel valley.

:hsugh: i never knew that the mag/clip slid in from the top. the only reason ive been wanting one is this is what my dad was using when he was in the vietnam war

nice gun, but if you're going to get a garand in .308, why don't you just get an m14, same platform base. and how much did that run you?

but if i had the chance i too would prolly get the garand in .308 as the ammo is cheaper and doesn't hurt as much. Anyone know if cmp sells .308 garands?

Nice rifle. Can't wait to get mine back.

    And 30-06 > .308

You can't go wrong with a real Garand from CMP and you won't get a better price anywhere else.

i had two, they went with the guns i sold that lived in them.

700 sits in a beretta silicon sprayed sock in my closet.

accord, i don't believe springfield uses USGI parts in their new garands. when i still had the M1A and frequented the M1A firing line (not the same site as TFL) it was a big bitch with a lot of the members on there. if they don't use USGI parts on their M1A's, i'd presume they don't on their garands.

Sure it wasn't the M14 he used? Not sure if the Garand was still in service for vietnam.

he's going to take it to his dad to show him and one of two things'll happen.

    1. his dad'll have a flashback and kill him.
    2. his dad'll call him an idiot for buying the wrong gun.

 I dont know if their were still Garands in use when we first went in advising in the early 60's :dunno: I think it was 67 when my dad first went over, think they were still using m14's at that point I got his basic training book thing somewhere, and they were still using m14's then. Got a few pics of him over there posing with a few different weapons m14, m16, ak's, sks

hell, the DM program still uses M14's today. i don't see them being totally phased out of service for at least another 10 years to come.

they can take the abuse and are proven to work in any environment.

I'de like to get one but damn pricey, wish we could still get the polytech ones, I would just swap out all the internals with USGI stuff :hs:

i enjoyed the M1A when i had it. just didn't enjoy it being "springfield-ized."

i plan on getting another one within a couple years, but a fulton.

a lot of people have found good deals for polys and norincos on the M14 forum that i was on and have done the same thing. shop the shows, look for independent sellers and not tables. you might get a good deal.
