I'd like an AMD CPU, but I'm not sure if this can be done dual core or not. Also, is dual-core worth it? What would you guys suggest?

    edit: $2000 CAD

Dual-core is the way to go. Should be no problem to price out a decent machine under $2k US with an AMD dual-core. I priced out a machine for myself at about $1500 Canadian with an Athlon X2 4400+ and 2 gigs of RAM.

This is what I'm considering. You'd probably want a better video card for gaming (?). Prices in Canadian Dollars

    Motherboard: Asus A8N-SLI Premium w/ DualDDR400, 7.1 Audio, Dual GB Lan, 2 x PCI-E x16 SLI, Cool-Pipe $209.95
    Memory: OCZ 2GB PC3200 Performance Series Dual Channel DDR Kit (2 x 1024MB) $239.95
    Case: Antec Performance TX1050B SOHO Tower w/ 500W SmartPower 2.0 $149.95
Hard Drive: Seagate 200GB Barracuda 7200.9 SATA II w/ NCQ, 8MB Cache $104.95
    Video Card: MSI NX6600LE-TD256E Geforce 6600 LE 256MB PCI-E w/ TV-Out, DVI $109.95
