Yeah, i know laptops aren't great for gaming... but i also need it for school work and portability to take into class.

I've been looking around a bit, but i can't seem to find a model with everything that i want for around $2k.

    Any recomendations?

looking for high end gaming ability.

thanks abunch.. and i did look for other threads, but most consisted of cheaper laptops and not geared towards gaming. :hs:

A buddy of mine just got a dual core Dell and he loves it. Was around $800, non-student discount, and they have zero percent financing for a YEAR!! He's been using it for about a month now and loves it....he's a BF2 addict and says it runs great on his computer.

take a peak at www.pctorque.com, their Sager line is

Also, they're resellers of some high-end Compal laptops for dirt cheap.

Personally, I'd look for the Core2Duo stuff.

No, but I know people who have. They're good notebooks, kind of a less-ricey Alienware.

It's big as hell and heavy too, but doesn't look too bad. CPU power isn't as important in gaming nowadays as GPU power is, because most games run the same small set of calculations in a continuous loop -- the real bottleneck is the size and speed of the RAM (to reduce disk-swapping and minimize the time the CPU has to wait for new data) and the GPU's ability to draw the 3D polygons smoothly without melting down. Still, I'd go with the 64-bit CPU instead of the 32-bit CPU, just because it's more future-proof for the time being.

One person said to look for a Core 2 Duo laptop; that's an even better idea than going with the AMD 64-bit laptop you found on cyberpowerpc.com, because it's got the longest useful lifetime ahead of it.

Remember that you will use your laptop for years after it's become hopelessly obsolete, so investing more money now isn't a bad thing -- it will save you from having to buy a whole new laptop sooner instead of later, since you can't just plug in new components to keep it up-to-date like you can with a desktop. If that means a bigger lump in your throat as you click the "order" button, or an extra month's credit card payment, so what? It makes the investment last that much longer.

Now, if you were buying a desktop, I'd tell you to go with a middle-of-the-road system with good upgrade potential. Unfortunately, laptops will probably never be that flexible.

What about a MacBook Pro? Has a pretty good video card, fast HD, etc. Its about in your price range.

I run World of Warcraft Totally maxed with safari, and adium and some other things sometimes open just fine.. Need another Gig of Ram, but that's cheap.

/runs away before the mac hate.

PCTorque is great - And I'm glad they decided to get back into selling laptops. They had actually stopped for a while, and I was pretty dissapointed.
