So gain muscle, but lose fat at the same time?

It's hard enough to gain only muscle :eek4:

In untrained/undertrained individuals it is very easy. If your current diet sucks, it will be even easier.

I would expect that you could lower your body fat % and gain muscle (gain muscle at a faster rate than you're gaining fat), but I wouldn't think you could actually lose fat while gaining muscle, unless you were taking steroids.

It's alot easier for a newb.

Think about a guy who's been training for 10 years and sits at 250lbs, 10%bf. He's gotta bulk on 8000 calories per day just gain an extra 5-10lbs of muscle each offseason. Now think about a guy who's skinnyfat 6' 150 lbs and never lifted a weight in his life. All it takes is lots of protein and lifting for him to make tremendous body composition changes. The further along in the game you are, the tougher this becomes.

I've dropped 8 inches off my waist in the past three months and my weight has stayed pretty much the same. My arms and legs dropped a bit in size the first month and went back up to the size they were the first time I measured but you could see definition and they were alot harder then they were initially. I'm a newb though so . . . :big grin:

the more overweight and the weaker you are the easier it is to lose weight and get stronger at the same time, the less fat and more muscle you have the more difficult it becomes to do both at the same time, at some point you have to decide which you'd prefer, but if your A a newb or B really overweight then it can be done at the same time imo

generally very hard to do, now if you are a beginner you can make strenth gains while losing fat. The strength gains are more from your muscles learning how to lift weights, kinda like practicing shooting a basketball, than gaining muscle.

I started lifting/dieting a month and a half ago. I'm not hardcore dieting, I just cut out the junk/soda and cut my portions down. I went from 245 to 231 in the first three weeks. Now I have gone back up to 234. I still have my gut but I am definately thinning out. I have ankles again now instead of cankles. My pants are starting to get real loose.

I gave up on worry about what my weight is. I'm just gonna shoot for a good build to my body.

So is it pointless to take whey protein while cutting then?
