I want one of those Sony touch screen cameras (DSC-T200) because they are compact and sleek as fuck. It just doesn't have as many features as I'd like and it's not an DSLR

I want a Canon Powershot G9 because it is a fully featured and sexy point and shoot. It's just a little big to carry in your pocket at clubs and it's still not an DSLR

And then I want a Canon Digital Rebel XTI because ideally I want a DSLR and I want to take quality fucking pictures. Buuuuuut I don't want to have blow so much money on a good lens afterwards and the size is less than to be desired for taking personal pictures on the fly with friends or family

I really need a camera that is fast too, one that starts up and is ready to take pictures on the fly. I am always missing pictures because my camera is too slow.

You need at least $900 to get a DSLR and you want to take great pictures right away, the kit lens is ok to learn on but it's worse than the glass on a P&S.

I should say have the capability to take great pictures, I can't be responsible if you're a terrible photographer.

You need photography lessons, not a camera. Having a DSLR isn't going to instantly transform you into a good photographer.

If you don't know wtf you're doing, your slr shots will look like p&s shots. Like White Storm suggested, get something out of the SD lineup (depending on your budget) they take great pictures and have a decent amount of manual options so you can start practicing. Because your camera won't take great photos for you, unless you actually have all the settings right. If you get a hang of it move on up. Or even get an S5 before an SLR.

put all of your thoughts into one post? no wonder why everyone on this forum has 30-90k posts within a 2 year span.

I think you should figure out what features you're most interested in having and base your decision on that.

Yes of course this is obvious. I've just been getting frustrated over my P&S with less than desirable optics so it seems the move to DSLR is only natural. I actually have a film SLR and I can take good pictures but fuck using film anymore.

yes, but $500 won't get you much as far as a DSLR is concerned, it will get you a body and a mediocre lens at best

    G9 > rebel + kit lens
