Ok everyone listen up. On January 10th 2008 (Thursday) at 10 a.m. State Representative Timothy Bearden, District 68, will be unveiling the Second Amendment Protection Act of 2008.For anyone wondering what it is... it's good for us. More than that you'll just have to show up.

This is a press conference on the capitol steps. For any of you who are new to this here's how it works. If ten people rally in support of abortion, anti-Christian displays, or more taxes the media will huddle them all together, call it a massive turn out, and take pictures that appear to fill up the entire lawn. If 100 people turn out for a pro-gun pro-carry rally they will call it a sparse turn out and take pictures of one guy standing off by himself, alone.

We need one-thousand (1,000) people there. We need each of those 1,000 people to bring their wives and kids. We need to fill up every possible space so that the AJC cannot find two people standing together alone. We need those steps to be over flowing. We need to push this with every bit of our collective might.

If we don't have twice the turn out for the anti-amnesty rally, we are all hypocrites and liars. Mark the date down. Get your friends on board now. This is something you can do for gun rights that requires no sacrifice, no communication skills, no contributions financially. There is no reason not to say with one voice "WE MATTER"! 2008 is THE year.

And so I'll see you on the 10th!

Is this posted on the GPO? I might consider showing up. I rarely do anything of the sort, but at this moment I can see myself going.

Yeah, there's a thread about it at GPO.

Yup, not going to be there, 3000+ miles, plus I would rather do something directly for the 2A like introduce new people to the joys of AK-47s....

    I understand that, for sure.

    It's $15 well-spent, though.

So is this on the Georgia Capitol steps or on the Nation's Capitol steps?

Fuck that, tell us what the fuck it does/says/whatever.. I'm not just going to go randomly show up in support of something that I may not fully endorse.

If it sounds good, I'll make the drive with a few friends, just because I would like to show all the 2A support I can.

GCO has asked its members not to publish the full text of the new bill.

BUT, I'll tell you it is a comprehensive reform of GA's gun laws, from top to bottom.

    Some things it fixes:
    • Removes "public gathering" prohibition
    • Removes the license requirement for open carry
    • Shortens the list of places off limits down to essentially public K-12 schools
    • Updates and improves license issuing procedure
    • Improves temporary license procedure
    • Prevents governor from taking guns during an emergency (Katrina provision)
    • Makes all forms of unlicensed car-carry legal
    • Makes it a state-level felony to facilitate a straw purchase (Bloomberg provision)

Nearly every segment of the bill was shamelessly stolen, word for word, from successful, NRA-backed legislation in other states.

Here is GCO's press release from last month: http://www.jasonpye.com/files/GCOPressReleaseA.pdf

I work downtown, so I'll be walking.

There is carpool discussion in the GPO thread I linked above.

That's awesome, but I'm not going unarmed. And I'll be damned if I show up to a place where there are bound to be lots of cops, which happens to be a government building, at a rally, with my blaster. That's just AXING to be searched. I don't want to deal with the hassle.

They want to keep the details under wraps until the final bill is ready. They also want to keep it out of the media (AJC especially) until it is done.

Giving out the full text of the bill before it's ready would give the media and anti-gun groups a head start on bad mouthing it.

Personally, I have shared the full bill and the other info about it with many people, in person. But, I agree that it would be a bad idea to put it online before it's time.

As far as GCO kissing your ass, members have had a hand in writing the bill and have had all the details for a while now. So, if you want to be involved and informed, I would suggest joining instead of bitching.

Exactly. I carry my gun. I would ordinarily NOT care what the law says about such, except that if I attended this "public gathering/political rally" about GUNS, there would be a huge focus on GUNS there, including from the cops. Carrying there would be asking for trouble. But since I'm not going out in public without carrying, I'm not going.

So, you won't go show support for the very people that are trying to get that stupid law repealed?
