i dont know much about apple, but i am in the market for one.

been looking at 15in, 17in powerbooks and was wondering if i would be stupid to wait a couple of months or maybe a year for apple to release a G5 powerbook.

    anyone here any news?

Don't get your hopes up for a G5 Powerbook any time soon.

Dual G4s? Good luck with that. Where would it fit in there? It's crammed tight as hell as it is and cooling would be a bitch.

It's difficult to say. You can just login to the AppleStore, goto Education, and select your school. The discounts are usually around 9-10% for current products.

as discussed elsewhere, you can get a greater discount on hardware by purchasing a student developer's membership for $99.

I'd like to see a bigger screen. Like 19 inches.

    :eek3:

that would be quite monstrous. how about just a higher resolution video card? my Windoze laptop has a 17" widescreen, but the video card supports all the way up to 1920 x 1200, so I've got as much usable screen space on my 17" laptop as you get with most desktop 23" LCD monitors.

    Knowing Apple, they probobly will.

Since they didn't come out with it around Christmas, if they did come out with it anytime soon it would most likely be released at the "apple keynote" in san fransisco.

no G5 but upgraded processor and a price drop :big grin:

    New Powerbooks
G5s are nowhere near ready as are dual G4s. There will however be slight upgrades and price drops.

12" - upgrade to 1.5 Ghz G4, BT/AE built in (like the new iBooks), 80 GB HD, Mobility Radeon 9700 (64 MB) Price $1399
    15" - upgrade to 1.67 Ghz G4, BT/AE built in, 80 GB, Backlit keyboard standard, Mobility Radeon 9800 (128 MB VRAM) Price - $2299
    17" - Same as 15" except 17" display - $2599

that doesn't mean anything and I really hope they come out with much more than just a minor speed bump. Apple hasn't updated the PB line since April of '04 so I hope that means they've been working on some really awesome stuff.

There's always rumors. I'm not sure if they are going to make the screen any bigger or not. I think a 17" screen is already hard enough to take around with you. Any bigger would make the powerbook both unstable and un-portable. It would pretty much take away the whole purpose of a laptop.
