How expensive is maintenance on the G35s? How often do you do the timing? Are they valve benders? What other issues do I need to know about on these cars?

this isn't some 1980 Pontiac :o Outside of regular fluid changes, spark plugs, fuel and air fillters every so often there isn't shit that you have to worry about for probably the life of the car.

My big concern is timing belt changes...shit can be expensive and disasterous if its not done right/on time...how often? hwats it cost? is it a valve bender?

VQ engines don't use timing belts. There is a timing chain

that's probably 100k or so... it isn't like oil changes or brake pad time-scale here :hsugh:

The G35 has a timing chain not a timing belt, you don't change those.

It's alright, so far only oil changes and I replaced the micro cabin filter. I had my car for over two years now and I will need new tires soon. The tires that came with the car are expensive and I will probably get the same (mich. pilot sport summer tires). The brembos replacements are pretty expensive also.

If you get dealer inspections and services that is where it costs a lot of money.

I know of people who were pushing over 230k without touching the chain. It supposedly stretches and needs to be tightened up every so often but I don't know of anyone who actually does that (at least on VQs) I doubt you'd keep the car that long anyways.. just drive and forget about it.

:ugh: yeah you do...but you dont have to, you just run them till they break in MOST cases...for example on my car its recommended to be done every 180k miles but people go 300+ without ever having issues...it may not be the same on a jap car though.

:hsugh: They start making noise LOOOOOOOOONG before they break, but I have NEVER heard of a VQ's chain having to be replaced or snapping....

i got raped for 7500miles on my g35coupe. $149.95 fucking bs oil change, check all sorts of lines, balance tires. All i wanted was a damn oil change, the whatever lines don't need to be checked and tires didn't need any balancing. When I bring in my Fx35 I'm gonna specifically tell them just an oil change no other bs.

You need to change your tranny fluid if it hasn't been done...every20k is about how often you need to do it.

As for bullet proof is it something that I can rev and not have to worry about it grenading? My car takes abuse but honestly I dont trust to run at 4k + on a regular basis which is where all the fun is. So I rarely drive it hard...

be sure the timing chain is 100% gold.

it's not better in any way, but at least you can brag about having a gold chain in your car
