A&P G3 still a decent camera to start with?

    Basic snapshots yes. Motion and low light settings, not so great.

    its still a good camera, good lens, lots of controls, something to start experimenting with. Is it the best avaible, of course not, but its still a good not-so-little cam

    Reflecting back to the G5 I have, it's still one of the best P&S Digicams out there today. Pretty similar to the G3 except for a the 4x Opt. Zoom vs. 3x and 5MP vs. the 4MP. (And more noise and CA as been mentioned by some reviews :o )

    The only things that bugged me continuously about it was the auto-focus not picking up on the right subjects in low light and low contrast areas. ISO at anything above 100 was terrible for prints. Web use you can salvage the ISO 400 with a run through Neat Image. As an everyday camera to have in your car and for occassional parties, it's a good camera, G5 as well as G3. I think you'd probably find the G5 easier nowadays for fairly cheap.

    i have a g3 and really like it a lot.
    it really depends what you are paying for it
