Sometime soon I think I'm going to have to get a glock. I have too many oddball guns and it'd be nice to have a handgun that I can do things like say order aftermarket sights for :big grin: I'd like 9mm, probably wouldn't carry it, and would like to eventually use it for some gun games. I have big hands and prefer a large grip.

G17? G17L? I don't know the rules for most of the gaming stuff, would the 17l put me in a bad class for a new competitive shooter?

The g20 and g29 are really tempting too but 9mm pricing for fun stuff is going to win out I think.

depends on the game. I would love to get a G17 to build as a iron sight steel plate gun but they are hard to come by in CA. Glock does not produce them anymore.

I would look to see what kind of matches you have in your area. I would suspect that it's ispc/uspsa and idpa. I would recommend a glock 17 or 34

G17 would probbaly be enough, not sure they even make 17Ls anymore. 34s are nice too, but if I wanted a fullsized glock I think I'd get the 17.

They do still make the 17Ls in small runs. My local chain has a few in stock right now if anyone is interested.

I'd go with the 34. The 17L will not qualify for IDPA or IPSC as it does not "fit in the box." Its too long. The 34 was built specifically to do fit the requirements for the gaming guns.

I have a 17 and 34 and if you really only mean to use it for games, go for the 34.

However, the 17 really isnt THAT different. You can get them for significantly cheaper than the 34, so if money is a concern, just save it and go 17.

A fairly local store here has a bunch of used ones in stock (not sure if someone was selling PD trade-in's or what), but they are wanting $675 for them claiming them to be "ultra-rare" and whatnot.

There's really nothing in my area now so who knows what it would be....complicates things I know.

You mean the 17l? The 17 is still produced right?

I hadn't considered the 34...might price them but you're right the 17's are so cheap that might be enough there to convince me.

I was looking at the G34 for shooting USPSA production. Are there any other differences between the G17 and G34 other than barrel length?

What would be a good deal?

The 34 comes stock with the factory adj sights, extended mag release, and extended slide stop. It is also capable of taking a extended tungsten guiderod. The longer sight radius makes it easier to shoot accurately.

Anyone ever seen a 34 with grip chopped down to 19 or 26 length? Could still toss long mags with grip extensions back in it for the range. Might make a kind of fun (if not a little crazy) carry gun. So far my experience is that hiding grip length is the main problem, slide length isn't much of an issue...

Holy hell, that would be nuts. I had a 17 cut down to a 19, and I LOVED the size of it. I thought about doing a 17 or 19 cut down to a 26 length grip, but I just can't like the size of the baby Glocks; they are just too short in the grip for me to get any kind of purchase on.

They are not real common or easy to find and do generally hold their value. I think they are selling for close to $800 new at the shop that has them.

Yeah but the 1911 is less wide so I gave it a shot.

I think I'll be buying another 19 for the lady, then maybe a 34. :o
