original horror films ever made. Granted none of the sequels lived up to it, but it was still awesome.

I think Nightmare was a great concept. Bad dreams are always freaky, because it's like your own mind turning against you, and the idea of somebody who can use it and manipulate it intentionally, being more powerful inside your own mind than you are, is some scary shit. And then a monster you can't fight because he isn't real (physically) makes it even worse. And then to top it all off, using the way a dream can seem real (ever dream that you woke up, only to realize you were still dreaming? ) to blend dreams and reality was awesome.

The Nightmare on Elm Street stuff really grabs a hold of your base fears.

i started losing interest when it seemed the focus was on gross ways to die instead of being scary.

:werd: When Freddy became a pop-culture character instead of a monster, the movies lost their edge.

That's why the first one is so epic: It's truly scary.

And I saw John Carpenter's The Thing on tv in the middle of the night, in a motel room, when I was the only one awake. I was too scared to go to sleep, so I laid there rolled up in the blankets (the monsters can't get you if you don't have your hands and feet exposed!) and watched the next movie that came on: Johnny Got His Gun.

That was a very weird and emotional night for a 12 year old kid. :o

The Exorcist and The Thing did a lot to cultivate my love of horror films.

The fact that my birthday is the day before halloween, so ever since I was little on my bday I just sit and watch scary movies on tv, didn't take away from that. :mamoru:

i first saw the nightmare series when they were mostly all out

i think the themes in the first one are WAY too deep and the content doesn't really pull off this whole metaphysical message of the film

Craven has talked AT LENGTH at how genius the ideas were in it, but it's still just a slasher film to me

    not saying it sucked
